Where to See Christmas Lights in Calgary This Year

Calgary does Christmas lights well. Between a free drive-by display that has run for four decades, a zoo that turns into a light show, a whole community that lights more than a million bulbs, and the towns just outside the city, there is enough to fill every weekend from mid-November to the new year.

This guide covers the best Christmas lights in Calgary, Chestermere and Airdrie for the 2026 season. Where organizers have announced 2026 dates, we list them. Where they have not yet, we give last season's dates and mark them check before you go. Every listing links to its source so you can confirm before you load up the car.

Quick List: Calgary Christmas Lights for 2026

  • Lions Festival of Lights, 14 Street NW: free, Nov 21, 2026 to Jan 8, 2027
  • ZOOLIGHTS, Calgary Zoo: ticketed, Nov 13, 2026 to Jan 3, 2027
  • Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market: four weekends from Nov 13, 2026
  • Enchanted Festival at Spruce Meadows: Dec 12 to 23, 2026
  • Legacy Lights, SE Calgary: free, community-wide (check before you go)
  • Lighten Up Calgary map: free map of decorated homes across the city
  • Chestermere Winter Lights Festival, John Peake Park: free (check before you go)
  • Airdrie Festival of Lights, Nose Creek Park: by donation, Dec 1 to 31, 2026

1. Lions Festival of Lights (Confederation Park, NW Calgary)

What it is: Calgary's best-known free Christmas light display, now in its 40th year. The lights line Confederation Park Golf Course along 14 Street NW, north of 24 Avenue NW, so you can drive it slowly or park and walk the whole thing.

Dates for 2026: November 21, 2026 to January 8, 2027. Opening night is Saturday, November 21 at 5 p.m., then the lights run nightly from 5:30 p.m. to midnight (Lions Festival of Lights, Visit Calgary).

Cost: Free.

Tip: Weeknights are the easiest time to drive through. On a busy December weekend, parking nearby and walking the route lets you take your time at each display.

2. ZOOLIGHTS (Calgary Zoo, NE Calgary)

What it is: The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo turns its grounds into a walking path of light displays. Last season added a 100 foot light tunnel, and Santa's Polar Palace and carousel rides ran on the same nights (Calgary Zoo). It is a walking event, so dress for standing outside.

Dates for 2026: November 13, 2026 to January 3, 2027, nightly from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Visit Calgary).

Cost: Ticketed. Prices vary by date, so buy online ahead of time.

Tip: Last season the zoo was closed on December 25 and for one private event night, so check the calendar before you buy.

3. Spruce Meadows: Christmas Market and Enchanted Festival (SW Calgary)

What it is: Spruce Meadows runs two separate holiday events. The International Christmas Market is a large outdoor and indoor market with vendors, food and festive displays. The Enchanted Festival is a later evening event with lights.

Dates for 2026: The market runs November 13 to 15, 20 to 22, 27 to 29 and December 4 to 6, 2026 (Visit Calgary). The Enchanted Festival runs December 12 to 23, 2026 (Visit Calgary).

Cost: Ticketed. Last season the Enchanted Festival was $20 for adults and $12 for kids and seniors (Daily Hive); 2026 prices are not yet confirmed.

Tip: Spruce Meadows is at 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW. Go early on the first market weekend if you want the best pick of vendors.

4. Legacy Lights (Legacy, SE Calgary)

What it is: The closest thing Calgary has to a whole neighbourhood lit up for Christmas. The community of Legacy puts up more than a million lights, with light tunnels and lit trees along the pathways, decorated show homes and a community skating rink (Legacy).

Dates: Last season ran December 1, 2025 to January 11, 2026. 2026 dates are not yet announced, so check before you go.

Cost: Free.

Tip: From Macleod Trail South, head past Stoney Trail to 210 Avenue SE and go east. Bring skates if the rink is open.

5. The Lighten Up Calgary Map (Homes Across the City)

What it is: If you want to see real houses rather than a park display, this is where to start. Lighten Up Calgary publishes a free map of decorated homes, sorted by community, and homeowners submit their own displays to be listed (Daily Hive, Visit Calgary). Some listed homes collect donations for a charity.

Dates: The map fills up through late November and December. Check before you go for each home's hours.

Cost: Free.

Tip: Pick two or three communities close together and plan a loop. We do not list private homes by address here; the map is the right place to find them because the owners chose to be on it.

6. Chestermere Winter Lights Festival (John Peake Park)

What it is: Chestermere's official holiday lighting, held at John Peake Park, 121 Chestermere Station Way. Last year's festival had a market and food trucks, wagon rides, Santa photos, fire spinners and fireworks, with the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. (City of Chestermere, Daily Hive). The park displays have stayed lit into January in past years.

Dates: Last season's festival was November 29, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. 2026 dates are not yet announced, so check before you go.

Cost: Free.

Tip: There is no parking in John Peake Park or the library lot on festival night, so plan to walk in from nearby streets.

7. Airdrie Festival of Lights (Nose Creek Park)

What it is: A long-running walk-through display that has been lighting Nose Creek Park since 1996 (Airdrie Today). It is one of the best family outings north of the city.

Dates for 2026: December 1 to 31, 2026, nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Visit Calgary).

Cost: Free, with donations welcome at the gate.

Tip: Nose Creek Park is at 1691 Main Street South in Airdrie. Last year, December 31 included a family skate night (Family Fun Calgary), a good way to finish the season.

Make Your Own Street the Bright One

Every display on this list has one thing in common: someone spent a lot of hours on a ladder to put it up, and they will spend more hours taking it down in January. That is the part most homeowners would happily skip.

Permanent lights change that. A track mounted along your fascia holds individual LED pucks that stay on the house year round and are close to invisible in daylight. In November you open the app and pick a Christmas scene: red and green, warm white, a slow candy cane chase or a full animated show. In January you switch it to warm white for everyday curb appeal, and nothing comes down.

If you live in the city, see permanent Christmas lights in Calgary and our permanent lights in Calgary page. If you still want a traditional seasonal setup, our Christmas light installation page covers that too. Out of town, we install across the region, including permanent lights in Chestermere and permanent lights in Airdrie.

Installs are roofline work, so they get harder once there is ice on the eaves. If you want lights on for Christmas 2026, the earlier you get a quote the more install dates you have to choose from.

Before You Head Out

  • Confirm dates the week you go. Organizers change hours for weather, and several 2026 dates above are still to be announced.
  • Dress for standing outside. Walk-through displays are colder than they look from the car.
  • Go on a weeknight. Every display on this list is busiest on December weekends.
  • Bring a donation. Several community displays are run by volunteers and fund local charities.
