Calgary's Chinook freeze-thaw cycles are the real test. Warm air softens seals and traps moisture. Overnight cold freezes that moisture, expanding and cracking cheap housings. IP68 is engineered to survive this cycle indefinitely.

IP68: the highest rating
IP68 means complete protection against dust ingress (6) and protection against continuous water submersion (8). This is the maximum IP rating. Many competitors use IP44 or IP65, which only protect against splashes, not standing water or ice melt.

Calgary's rapid warm/cold cycling is harder on housings than steady cold. Moisture enters weak seals during warm Chinook conditions, then freezes overnight and expands. IP68 sealed modules prevent moisture entry in the first place.
