How Soon Can My Permanent Lighting Be Installed?

Lead times vary by season. Spring and summer have shorter waits, fall is busiest. Most homes are completed in a single day once booked.

You have decided you want permanent lighting on your home. The next question is practical: how long will it actually take to get installed? The answer depends on when you book, how complex your roofline is, and what season you are planning for.

This guide covers realistic lead times at Number One Lights, what to expect during each phase, and how to plan ahead so your lights are ready when you want them, whether that is for the holidays, a special event, or just as soon as possible.

Typical install time

Once our crew arrives at your home, most residential installs are completed in a single day. That includes:

  • mounting the aluminum hat track to every fascia or soffit section
  • installing all RGBW LED puck modules at consistent spacing
  • routing and concealing all wiring inside the track system
  • mounting and wiring the certified control box
  • connecting the system to WiFi and the GOULY app
  • testing every zone, colour, and pattern
  • walkthrough with the homeowner

For a typical single-family home with a standard roofline, installation takes 4 to 8 hours. Larger homes, complex multi-level rooflines, or homes with extensive soffit runs may take a full day or occasionally extend into a second morning.

The point is this: once install day arrives, it is fast. You are not looking at a multi-day construction project. You wake up without permanent lights and go to bed with a fully operational system.

The booking process

Here is how the timeline works from first contact to install day:

Step 1: Request a virtual quote

Start by requesting a free virtual quote. You provide photos or video of your home's exterior, and we assess the roofline, fascia condition, and system requirements remotely. No need to schedule an in-person visit for the initial quote.

Step 2: Quote review

We prepare a detailed quote based on your home's specific measurements and requirements. This typically takes 1 to 3 business days after we receive your photos.

Step 3: Approval and scheduling

Once you approve the quote, we schedule your install date. How soon that date is depends on the season (more on that below). We confirm the date, and our crew arrives prepared with all materials pre-cut and ready.

Step 4: Install day

Crew arrives, installs the full system, tests everything, and walks you through the GOULY app before leaving. By the end of the day, your system is live.

Step 5: Enjoy

Open the app, pick a design, and your home is lit. Browse our outdoor lighting ideas for inspiration, or check out the tutorials to get the most out of your system.

Seasonal demand and lead times

The permanent lighting industry has a clear seasonal pattern, and understanding it will help you plan.

Fall (September through November): busiest season

This is when the majority of homeowners decide they want permanent lights, usually because they are thinking about the upcoming holiday season. September and October bookings surge as homeowners want their system installed before December.

Expected lead time in fall: 2 to 6 weeks depending on when you book. Early September bookings typically get installed in September or October. Late October bookings may push into November. November bookings are a race against the calendar.

If you want your lights ready for the holiday season, book before Thanksgiving in October. This gives us enough runway to schedule your install well before December.

Winter (December through February): limited availability

Alberta winters are cold, but installation is still possible on days when conditions allow. However, extreme cold (-20°C and below), heavy snow, and ice on rooflines can make safe installation difficult. Winter bookings are scheduled around weather windows.

Expected lead time in winter: 2 to 4 weeks, weather dependent. Some homeowners book in January or February specifically because they watched their neighbours' holiday displays and decided they want their own system ready for next year.

Spring (March through May): excellent availability

Spring is one of the best times to book. Seasonal demand has eased, schedules open up, and the weather is improving. Homeowners who book in spring are often thinking ahead for the following holiday season or simply want to enjoy their lighting through the long summer evenings.

Expected lead time in spring: 1 to 3 weeks. This is typically the shortest wait time of the year.

Summer (June through August): good availability

Summer offers long days, warm weather, and comfortable working conditions. It is an ideal time for installation, and schedules are generally open.

Expected lead time in summer: 1 to 3 weeks. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that summer is a great time to install permanent lighting. Your system will be ready for every occasion from Labour Day barbecues to Halloween to the full holiday season.

Planning ahead for the holidays

The number one reason homeowners wish they had booked sooner is the holiday season. Every year, we hear the same thing: "I should have called in August."

Here is a realistic holiday planning timeline:

  • July-August: Book your virtual quote. Zero rush, maximum flexibility on scheduling.
  • September: Ideal install window. System is up and tested well before the first snowfall. You have months to explore designs and animations in the app before the holidays.
  • October: Still excellent timing. Most homes can be scheduled and installed before Halloween.
  • November: Tight but possible. Early November bookings usually make it. Late November is cutting it close.
  • December: If you have not booked yet, you are likely looking at a January or February install for the following year.

The best part about booking early? Your permanent lights are not just for December. Once installed, they enhance your home every single night, from warm white architectural lighting on a Tuesday to full holiday mode on Christmas Eve. Homeowners who install in summer consistently tell us they wish they had done it sooner because they had no idea how much they would use the lights outside of the holiday season.

Factors that affect your specific timeline

While the general seasonal patterns above apply to most homeowners, a few factors can affect your individual lead time:

  • Roofline complexity. Homes with many peaks, valleys, dormers, or mixed roofline heights require more planning and may take longer to install. The quote process accounts for this.
  • Fascia condition. If your fascia needs repair before the track can be mounted, that work needs to happen first.
  • Materials availability. We keep standard inventory on hand, but unusually large homes or custom configurations may require additional lead time for materials.
  • Weather. Alberta weather can shift quickly. Winter installs are scheduled around weather windows, and occasionally a fall install may be rescheduled due to an early storm. We communicate proactively if weather affects your date.
