Depending on your location, local bylaws may require permits; however, and we will advise you if this is required.
The GOULY system is 24V low-voltage, plugs into a standard 120V household outlet, and requires no electrical panel work. We will advise you on any municipal permit requirements during your consultation.

Permit requirements
Because the GOULY system uses a Class 2 isolated low-voltage power supply (24V DC output from a standard 120V outlet), it does not involve the high-voltage electrical work that triggers most permit requirements.
The UL/cUL certified control box (File E483482) converts standard 120V household power to 24V DC. Everything on your roofline is low-voltage. Most municipalities treat low-voltage outdoor lighting differently from high-voltage electrical work.
The control box plugs into a regular household outlet. No panel modifications, no new circuits, no electrician, and no electrical permit. The entire system draws only 50-150 watts.
Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks, Langdon, Strathmore, and other municipalities each have their own bylaws. What is required in one city may not apply in another. We track these requirements.
Some Calgary communities have homeowner association guidelines for exterior modifications. The colour-matched, low-profile hat track typically meets or exceeds architectural standards. We can help you navigate HOA approvals.
During your on-site consultation, we advise you on any permit requirements for your specific municipality and community. You do not need to research bylaws yourself.
Number One Lights carries $3,000,000 commercial general liability insurance and full WCB coverage. Your home insurance is not affected by our low-voltage lighting installation.
