Energy efficiency
Permanent LED systems use a fraction of the power of incandescent string lights. Here are the specific numbers for Calgary-area electricity rates.
A full roofline of Gen 3 RGBW LED pucks draws 50-150 watts depending on home size, LED count, and brightness setting. That is less power than a single traditional incandescent light bulb.
At average Alberta electricity rates running 6 hours per day, the total monthly cost is $2-$5. That works out to roughly $55 per year for a typical Calgary single-family home.
The 24V architecture draws less current than 12V systems for the same brightness. Lower current means less resistive heat loss in wire runs and more energy actually reaching the LEDs as light.
The dedicated warm white and cool white diodes in Gen 3 pucks produce white light directly, not by mixing RGB at full power. Dedicated white channels are more efficient and produce cleaner light than RGB-mixed white.
The GOULY app adjusts on/off times to actual sunset and sunrise for your location. In Calgary, sunset ranges from 4:30 PM in December to 9:45 PM in June. The system adapts automatically, running only when it is dark.
LEDs convert energy into light, not heat. The pucks are cool to the touch during operation. No fire risk on dry fascia materials, no heat damage to soffits, and no wasted energy as thermal output.
